What to get your grandad for his birthday

As we all know, our granddads are very special and so we want to make them feel special and loved on their birthdays. It can be difficult knowing what to buy for a granddad however, especially as many older people tend to say that they already have everything they need and they don’t particularly need or want any material possessions.

A good tip is to give your granddad something very personal on his birthday. A personal gift that your granddad will really appreciate could be something you make yourself, such as a hand-knitted scarf to keep him warm on those chilly days, along with a lovely handmade card. If arts and crafts aren’t really your thing however, there are other gifts you can give that still offer that personalised factor. How about a mug, calendar or tea tray with a photo of the family on it? There are many online sites out there these days that can make these types of gifts for you easily.

Another good suggestion is to take your granddad out for the day and spend some time with him. You can’t put a price on quality family time and you can spend the day doing something he really enjoys, whether that’s a walk in the park followed by coffee and cake; a Sunday lunch at the local pub or a trip to the cinema or theatre. Time is a great gift and one that can last in the memory for a long time.

As well as spending time with your granddad and giving him a personalised gift, you can give him something really practical that he will get a great deal of use out of, such as hair loss shampoo. Choose a well-known product such as Viviscal and he’s sure to feel like a brand new man in no time!

The Fast Show 2011 – so far

The Fast Show is back and its characters are funnier than ever. If you haven’t seen the online series of the Fast Show 2011 yet, then you need to get over to fosters.co.uk and get reacquainted with the old favourites like Dave Angel – eco warrior, Ted and Ralph, Billy Bleach, the Suit You tailors and Rowley Birkin QC.

Although we all thought the Fast Show had finished in 2000, when they did their ‘last-ever’ episode featuring Johnny Depp, the creators of the Fast Show were persuaded to make the online series when they heard just how many people were searching for YouTube funny videos from the previous hit series. So Charlie Higson and Paul Whitehouse went back to their writing desks and got the old cast together to make the Fast Show 2011.

In Episode 1 we were treated to a spoof on Downton Abbey – Upstairs Downton, as well as seeing Ted and Ralph and Rowley Birkin QC. The next episode saw the return of our Janine, the teenage mum who has now got the hang of social networking, and the Suit You tailors.

Music hall star Arthur Atkinson is still coming out with rubbish punch lines and Swiss Toni compares cooking eggs to ‘making love to a beautiful woman’ in the third episode.

The more recent episodes have seen the return of Louis Balfour to the Jazz Club and a second part to Upstairs Downton. In the fifth episode, Chanel 9 returned and we saw Johnny Nice Painter who’d suffered a knock to the head. There was also a new ad for Cheesy Peas.

In the last episode we’ve seen Billy Bleach the pub bore talking a woman to tedium about smartphone technology and Ted and Ralph weighing up whether they can be friends on Facebook or not.  Ralph sums up a lot of people’s feelings about social networking by saying nervously to Ted – ‘do you Tweet?’

The next episode is online in January 2012 – don’t forget to get online to watch the Fast Show. And if you haven’t seen any of the episodes so far, they’re all available to view on fosters.co.uk.

What are Some Good Gifts for Men?

It is often straightforward to find a suitable gift for a girl, and if you are unable to work out what to buy, she’ll tell you. Many men, from an alternative perspective, will not give you a single clue.Try it, ask us what we need for our birthday. Very often, the reply you’ll receive will be something similar to, “Anything you pick out will be fine.” Or worse, “I do not need anything.” When hunting for a person, fight the urge to get a tie and go for something rather more exotic. Bear in mind that women and men are dissimilar types of patrons. A lady will obtain something strange and exotic for herself but for a person, shopping is a rather more practical pursuit.

There are things out there that a person wants, but will never buy. It’s your job to discover what those things are. Here is a few concepts for the person in your life. Every bloke has a tiny bit of Indiana Jones in him. Weird equipment made from dead animal parts will customarily pleasure. While a wallet is generally too normal, a wallet made from snakeskin, alligator, or something weird will bring a grin. Another standard item is a keychain. Sometimes dull, yes? Not if it has got a real cobra head on it. Other items with wild pigs ‘ tusks, whale teeth, or other sorts of animal bones also will be a treasure he will keep for evermore. If your man is a lager drinker, go to the import shop and get a 6 pack made of one lager each from 6 different states. Or if you do not mind the possibility of him taking over the cellar, get him a beer-making kit and let him make his very own. There’s an old proverb that goes, “a lady can not have too many pairs of shoes.” So it is with men and pocketknives. If he hasn’t got a Swiss army knife, get him one.

If he has one, find a faster pocketknife with just knife blades, but with a bizarre handle. A carved bone handle with an Asian design is a good choice. Men, as well, will only occasionally buy jewellery for themselves. A pleasant male silver ring that reflects his character will make him think about you usually. There are one or two easy guidelines to follow when hunting for gifts for men. First, do not even trouble asking him what he would like, he will not tell you. And if he does tell you, it will not be what he, actually wants. Exotic but handy is the key. Keep that noted, spend an afternoon shopping, and you are going to find the ideal present
